Emergency Services
Sparta Veterinary Services provides emergency care services to pet owners in Sparta, Tennessee and the surrounding areas. In the event of an emergency during office hours, please call 931-739-8800.
We also offer after hours emergency services to our current clients. In the event of an emergency outside office hours, we ask clients to call our regular office number listed above, and the answering service will take the call. The veterinarian on call will contact you to assess the situation and determine the best course of action.
We are also available for urgent care during office hours when your pet’s condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our staff will do their best to work you into the schedule that same day.
When should you seek emergency care for your pet? The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for your pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek emergency care for your pet:
- Difficulty breathing
- Acute abdominal swelling
- Electric shock
- Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
- Bleeding
- Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
- Seizures
- Sudden onset of weakness
- High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
- Unable to urinate or defecate
